A Big Surprise at Desert Sunrise!

In March, Maricopa Unified School District invited District Council and school board members to tour the construction progress at Desert Sunrise High School. “I wanted our team to have this time together to walk the halls, to smell the paint, to see the natural light, together, as a team that has worked really hard to bring this dream to life” says Dr. Tracy Lopeman, Superintendent of Maricopa Unified School District.

The group met in Building C – a soon-to-be 2-story classroom building with lots of flexible learning areas, makers spaces, and TONS of natural light. The event culminated with a surprise by Dr. Lopeman…the lights turned on! The building was fully powered. This is a major construction milestone that gets planned well before construction ever begins. With help from the design and construction teams (Orcutt Winslow and CHASSE Building team), MUSD was proud to have hit this milestone on the exact day they targeted, nearly 2-years prior.

As an added bonus, the District also revealed the official logo and mascot. Desert Sunrise High School is now home to the Golden Hawks! Orcutt Winslow helped develop the logo + provided large rendering boards with different variation that will be used for marketing purposes. CHASSE Building Team even distributed the FIRST EVER school pride tee shirts!

Check out the video below for highlights from the event, remarks from Superintendent Lopeman, and a tour from Biby Carbonneau, senior project manager at Orcutt Winslow. Enjoy! And don’t forget to come back for our next project update!
